Multicultural education
The European School of Metropolitan Lille is an accredited European school. It offers a European, multicultural and multilingual education to children in the Lille metropolitan area. It prepares students for the European Baccalaureate.
The school is part of the network of European schools accredited by the Office of the Secretary General of the European Schools.The accreditation procedure complies with the basic texts of the European Schools and the school is regularly subject to audits of our organizational and teaching practices.
The European education provided at the Lille Metropolitan European School aims to develop students’ knowledge of their national identity as well as their European citizenship by teaching students to look beyond their differences to find what brings them together.
The European Schools Programme includes:
- learning together in a context of diversity and sharing ;
- learning common programmes
- mastering several European languages;
- liberation from divisive prejudices from an early age; learning about the richness and values of different cultures.
Our mission
The words of Marcel Decombis (Director of the European School of Luxembourg between 1953 and 1960) express the very essence of our mission:
“(…) Educated side by side, untroubled from infancy by divisive prejudices, acquainted with all that is great and good in the different cultures, it will be borne in upon them as they mature that they belong together. Without ceasing to look to their own lands with love and pride, they will become in mind Europeans, schooled and ready to complete and consolidate the work of their fathers before them, to bring into being a united and thriving Europe.”
We place the child at the heart of learning, by passing on humanist values. Our school project aims to develop in our students a spirit of openness, tolerance and respect. We prepare them for an internationally recognised diploma, the European Baccalaureate.
Encouraging autonomy and responsibility in our students is an essential part of our educational project.
Our history
The school opened its doors in September 2019 in a temporary location in Marcq-en-Barœul, with 4 class levels: M1, M2, P1, S1. Each year, a new level opened, with P2 and S2 in 2020, P3 and S3 in 2021, P4 and S4 in 2022, and P5 and S5 in 2023. At the start of the 2024 school year, the P5s will move directly into S1. The planned openings are therefore the S6 classes in 2024 and the S7 classes in 2025.
